The Akita Inu has other family members, including the Tosa Inu, Kishu Ken, Shikoku Ken, Ainu Ken, Kai Ken, Hokkaido Inu, Koshi-no-Inu and the smaller Shiba Inu.
The words 'Inu' and 'Ken' both mean 'dog'.
